Music Playlists.
It’s coming to the end of June, so you know what I’ve got prepared this week, enjoy my current music update! At #1 We have Oxlade, a literal goat. I actually think he’s got everyone in a chokehold, he really doesn’t miss. On replay currently I have: DKT KU LO SA Hold On Weakness Every single day I play him, without hesitation. Even when KU LO SA came out I played it countless times a day I was so obsessed. He’s honestly so musically talented. #2 Tonight - Burna Boy Alongside tik tok bringing this one back, I had put it on my throwbacks playlist so naturally I’ve fallen in love with it again. I will forever love Burna Boy. #3 100MPH FREESTYLE X2 - Clavish Obviously I’ve been hovering around the Clavish hype for some time now - meaning I’ve heard a couple of songs - but this specific one I was recommended and I loved it. I like the second version better than the first one just because of the wordplay, the feel, it’s so majestic. I remember when I listened for the first time actually, I was waiting for the beat to kick in - and boy was I waiting long - but when I realised how the song was growing? Nah it’s crazy. Even when the drums come in near the end? This is definitely one to listen to. “My rambos got more drip than them, but then again it got its drip from them”. #4 Set it Off - Nebu Kiniza Wow what a Nebu vibe. I know everyone remembers gassed up from 2016, but I don’t think as many people followed his journey afterwards. I like this song cause it really is Nebu-esque like all of his beats are kind of fast-paced, and have some serious drum loops; it’s just a representative project. Stream “From Me 2 U”. #5 Xtra Time - Blade Brown & K-trap I just love the vibe of this song, the 808s, the whole album collab, everything is just top tier. I've been seeing Blade's name a lot more recently, kudos to him. I think overall this month has been a really good month for both new music and old, I genuinely feel like this month with anything music related I’ve been so content & happy. Artists, keep doing your thing - Miriam.

Music Playlists.
Link also includes a playlist filled with my favourite throwbacks of all time. DISCLAIMER: Not all the songs mentioned are in the playlist, because they're not on mainstream sites like Apple music & Spotify. For this week we’ll be taking music a couple years back to look at a couple of my favourite throwbacks. To begin, let's start with the infamous group 316. From these lots we received songs like Fine Girl, 7+3, Losing Me, Wine Up & many more. Actually in January, I only remember because I tweeted, I fell down this spiral. This specific era from 4-6 years ago was definitely part of the genesis in me discovering my love for music. Those music videos? Even the one with Geko is crazy ‘cause that dancing has to be illegal. My favourite out of them all, and to be truthful to this day I still don’t know how many there are, was between Kaiser & Josho. #2 Kilo Keemzo. Now this specific artist has a specific memory attached to him. One of my brother’s friends used to love “Cellular” by him, but actually around the time that I remember, which is about mid-2019 if my memory doesn’t fail me, it actually felt kind of late to be bumping kilo keemz, sorry not sorry innit. Keemzo had his time though, he had songs like Boogie Dance (this must has been a movement, at the time that this came out if you didn’t know this tune you weren’t one of the guys), Lyca 2 Lyca, Black Bottles the list goes on to be honest. “Baby girl why you moving anti? Want you to remove them panties.” I’ll scream it till the day I die bruv. #3 SL SL always made me feel like a gangster. I don’t know why but rapping his very calm, composed music was always so indulging. My top 2 from him were Tropical & Gentleman. In my opinion he’s a clear mainstream artist no matter if I don’t listen to him the way I used to, because now everyone else does. “Mum said back by 10 there’s somewhere we need to go, it’s 9:30 and I’m on the M-way I doubt imma make it home.” #4 Headie One Another very clear mainstream artist who made some undeniable anthems. He dropped tunes like shed no light, (it’s a bit of a sticky one still had everyone I knew in a chokehold) Golden Boot & Know Better. I think “Know Better” was my personal introduction to RV, the Headie and RV duo was unmatched, when these two came together? You know they cooked up something magical in the studio. I love him dear to this day. #5 Harlem Spartans You know these lots ran shit back then. Money on the Road, Grip & Ride, Teddy Bruckshot, Call Me A Spartan are all songs that I think our generation will forever cherish. It took most of us girls through our drill stage - because I know this isn’t really a stage for a lot of guys & well I still listen to drill here and there - and I think helped us appreciate music a lot more ‘cause when most guys had either died or were locked up? It was hard out here for real. I wouldn’t class “Money On the Road” as drill as Naira Marley brings that afrobeat/swing flair to it - but apple music says it’s hip-hop/rap anyway. These are literally a couple of my favourites, that 2016-2018 era cannot be replicated and damn, I miss it’s presence so much. I’ll be back with a part two - Miriam.
Music Of The Week Playlist. I just want to start by talking about mimithemusicblogger, someone needs to hire this woman as personal PR because she’s part of the reason why I’m here! Honestly I’ve seen a couple tweets from her about this project, obviously it was also included in her “new music” segment on Instagram when it was released so all the more reason to listen. MY TOP 3 OF ALL EYES ON ME AGAINST THE WORLD (IN ORDER) #1 Body Language feat. Stardom. I LOVE THAT INTRO. One of the snippets from Goodfellas but it literally reminds me of something that would pop off here in hackney: a gangster giving himself a hug? Excites me to psychologically analyse that. Stardom is cold on this, I love the way he and Tef go back and forth at one point like a rap battle, where he says “like John Dillinger…” ‘cause it’s captivating to see their energies bounce off one another. I really do love this beat too, all of this project pieces so perfectly together it’s difficult to describe. “When I see my brothers I say blessing be upon ya, I’m learning body language cause it’s treachery among us” is the realest shit I’ve heard, especially in this day and age life can never be taken for granted and I’m so happy he portrayed it in a tape like this because, it needs to be known that not all is rosy on the roads. #2 Cosa Nostra. This song taught me so many things. Besides another snippet from Goodfellas, the song as a whole is just so immersive, it sounds like what the streets are described to be; almost like the theme song to any trap based film. I think the contrast between the streets & music inspired by Goodfellas really gives it authenticity. Everyone has their kink, his is Mafia movies. Last but most definitely not least, #3 Circle feat. Ramz This song brings a more upbeat vibe to the EP. The electric guitar? Bloody excellent mate, I think if you really pay attention it directs the whole song and the fade out at the end just makes it even better. This song is kind of a juxtaposition as it’s essentially throwing away the old life for greater things. The bars from Tef & Ramz are top tier, the flows on this are brazy, I just love this so much. “I ain’t sending any more emails, I ain’t never going back to retail,” well I know that’s right. To wrap up this emotional rollercoaster, I want to give honourable mentions to “6am on the Island”, “Flowers” & “Stay Dangerous” , very close contenders to my top 3. I genuinely commend young Tef’s style - I love his flow - and also his choice in features, every single person featuring on this compliments him, making this EP what it is. Where were you when I was trapping out the basement? Learning my book - Miriam. |
