Music Playlists.
This month's current music update begins with, Normally - Young Jonn. I was scrolling on tik tok and I heard someone talking about this song; I liked how he described the lyrics and really depicted the meaning so I thought to take a listen. “loving you is my only bad habit” I think this says enough to be honest. It’s one of a few romantic afrobeats songs that I’m actually in love with. #2 Terminator - Asake At first as much as everyone loved the snippet, I thought this was going to be Asake’s first miss for me. Well I mean seeing as it’s here you can tell I no longer feel this way. It’s always been so catchy even when it was just a snippet, I’d be singing “my banaaaana oh, my bana come chop my bana '' all around the crib - that instrumental too? Especially near the end with that guitar solo, absolute masterpiece. #3 Said to me - Gino J Oh this song yeah? Spectacular. I’ve been itching to talk about this song. Gino knew exactly what he was doing because from the lyrics, vocals, instrumental & the chorus? It’s all just so perfectly calculated I’m in disbelief Even had me in bondage when it was just a snippet. AND THEN THAT KEY TRANSITION? GINO MF J, who taught you such things??? Honestly it’s angelic to listen to, had to reload so many times after it first dropped. #4 Set Nice - Gabzy Now Mr Malone, after previewing this on Instagram live literally this month last year, he finally decided to drop it. You know what yeah, I was almost mad that he softened the drums and switched it up slightly around 2 minutes in but then he literally made it up with the ad libs and that fake ending. He almost had me fooled for a second. No but for real though, this one is one for the books. I smell the EP coming boss - but really and truly drop a mf album. #5 Love Don’t Cost A Dime - Magixx This song here is not of this world. I can play this back to back to back, and not get sick of it. It just feels like the ultimate love song and even though it’s somewhat recognised, I still believe it needs its flowers. “Girl she gives me butterflies in my belly,” like are you crazy or what? Since when have you heard men be so open about how women make them feel? It genuinely is just such a beautiful song. #6 Candy Reign - Jim Legxacy This song evokes those feelings of summer, as if we’re reliving it all over again. Reminds me of all the parties I’ve been to and the good moments. Even the way the song was sampled gave Jim a lot of space to still make the song his own, honestly love the way his voice and style fits this - it gives a whole new meaning to the original song. Recently I’ve gotten sick of sampled songs but you literally can’t ignore this one. Great entry to the scene as this is the first that many have heard from him. #7 My Bella - BenjiFlow feat. Oxlade Third month in a row Oxlade has made it into my music updates! Although this wasn’t released recently, I just discovered this one and it felt like a crime to leave this one out. The instrumental gives off that holiday/party vibe (flawless might I add) and it’s just a joy to listen to because it’s not complicated at all - not one of those songs that you really have to sit and analyse, just feel the groove. #8 Diana Freestyle - Mulla Stacksz Efosa did a brilliant job of producing this. I remember I played this tune the day after I got my hair done, sun was blazing and I was running a couple errands, when I tell you that’s my theme song you’ll think I'm gassing. It’s just so effortless and an unmatched vibe. #9 Omah Lay (Woman & Temptations) Now the whole Boy Alone album had me in a chokehold when I’d first listened earlier this month but of course I had to bring my two favourites. “Woman” - I’m honestly enjoying the evolution afrobeats is making with its love songs, embracing our women & love in a way like none before. “Temptations” - I love the bass and when he says “but you dey for me today, you dey tomorrow,” I’ve already told you lots about romantic afrobeats. I don't think I need to repeat myself. #10 Fear no one - Kojo Funds. Now my friend and her brother performed this song in front of me for the first time ever. I feel terrible that I didn’t actually know this song when it came out but nonetheless, Kojo funds never misses so finding old music? It’s the best feeling ever. This felt like Kojo funds stating his stance in the music scene, I giggled at the girl with the gun tattooed on her leg though, what a time to be alive. “Yeah they know me, Kojo one & only,” that’s right. My month summed up musically - Miriam.
