As we come to close the month of October I’m back with my current music update of this month! Let’s dig in, shall we? Philo - Omah Lay & Bella Lately Omah Lay has just been amazing in terms of his quality of music, now both these artists on one song? When I first heard this I was watching one of Lisaah Mapsie’s youtube videos and for me, any song I’m recommended I’ll take a listen to but I already knew I was gonna love it. It’s the beat, the ad libs, Bella’s voice on this is trancing and Omah Lay’s verse is amazing too. “Nothing wey I no go do for my philo”. All Over - Magixx I don’t even remember where I came across this song but after ‘Love Don't Cost A Dime’? I had to listen to this, I love the theme of heartbreak Magixx has been following recently, obviously it’s not fun to go through but at least it makes a good song. “Say you fit take all of my pain” I’ve come across this theme of afrobeat love songs where the men feel as though their partner is capable of taking all their pains away, nothing against it though, I admire their belief in the power of love. Soweto - Victony Now this song has been trending on tik tok, but the project it’s a part of was actually released in May. I love the simplicity of the beat for this one, the instrumental is not too overpowering and the song feels very natural and as if his voice does everything. It sounds a little like a love story but sadly I can’t understand everything being said, nonetheless it’s a vibe. The flute little freestyle at the end absolutely does it for me, it’s so beautiful. Youngest In Charge - Jross “Watching all you haters, spectating, I see all of you,” aside from these lines actually being catchy and very easy to pick up on, he has genuinely created a tune that will, in my opinion, be around for a long time. I think the production on this song is top tier, and even the introduction before the beat actually drops just says everything. It’s not flamboyant and generic, I love his sound - he reminds me of Marzi and a couple of other artists who’ve begun to explore this side of afrobeats. “You better not cross my way, ‘cause I’m coming from miles away,” I see you Jross, excited to hear what’s next. Say I - Moses CGB Now I intentionally put this song straight after Youngest In Charge because this is a part of that similar sound that I was referencing. The thing with these songs is that no two ever sound the same, but yet you can tell the kind of vibe they were going for. ‘Say I’ makes me speechless, that second verse?? That second verse has me in more than a chokehold and I’ll definitely say it’s my favourite, the way it blends with the beat and his octave change? Ah Moses we have to regulate because no one was ready for you to give us that calibre of music. Deya Suh - Vianni & DJ EDOTT This song was dropped in 2020 and I don’t know why I hadn’t heard it earlier but I couldn’t get enough of streaming it this month. The beat on this is brutal, and Vianni’s vocals eat us up every single time - it’s actually a shame that I haven’t really heard much from him since ‘Recognise’. “Drop a bag a man just for me,” I mean I don’t know who wouldn’t, have you lot’s seen this man? Honestly though a unbelievable tune, this is the type of Vianni the people want! Magnum - Youngs Teflon Now I already spoke about this song in the top 3 review I did, but it’s been on repeat and I am glad that Tef is keeping up his work rate and never loses his sound. Ego - 1da Banton What a coincidence that I discovered this song a couple of days after revisiting ‘No Wahala’. I literally just heard this song on a fly and I know when I’m listening to a banger; not much to say about it aside that it just makes me love afrobeats even more. Black Beetles - Jordy & Elt Cheekz That intro Margs gives is irreplaceable, it sets the tone for the whole album. Jordy’s use of simplistic beats compliment him like crazy, his wordplay and rhyming technique is out of this world. Even when Elt Cheekz comes in he slightly reminds me of Giggs, his voice sits over the beat so well. “They know that when I drop it’s coming like Christmas,” this was honestly the best present of presents. Those were my 9 favourites of the month - Miriam.

Earlier this year Youngs Teflon dropped All Eyes On Me against the world, which I talked about in music of the week. He has now come back with Side B of the EP, delivering us with 9 songs and 7 NEW songs in total. So this week I bring you the top 3 of All Eyes On Me Against The World (Side B) - in order of release only. #1 Tiffany’s I’ll forever scream how much I love Tef’s storytelling skills and from this song actually begins the EP is already good. I love the way he still kept the theme of using voice inserts/skits from whichever film, honestly I’m not too sure whether it’s still Goodfellas but nonetheless, it builds on the theme. “We listen to the stories, we make up our mind and we don’t react to one side,” I think this is a lesson for life, surface information is never enough to make judgement. The solemn soft beat isn’t something Tef blesses us with all the time, but he bodied either way. #2 Rogues One thing I’ve noticed with Tef is that his bars are so cold he references his own songs and his own lines just because of how iconic he is. I like his delivery and also the end where the females are just gisting about men. I’m so convinced this is how every man thinks women’s conversations are and usually I wouldn’t lean towards this kind of thing but I actually like his incorporation of this, it adds to the theme of gang, mischief & problems. #3 Magnums Now this song here is my favourite on the EP. Tef had previewed this as a freestyle prior to this drop and I absolutely fell in love, his swag, the punchlines, the beat, everything just comes together so nicely on this one and I’m happy he didn’t alter anything when releasing it. Even the intro, “Ain’t nobody hitting it like me right now I’m telling you,” he doesn’t even need to tell us ‘cause we know; work rate is immaculate. And yet he still manages to maintain the theme of this gang & Goodfellas inspo with the mention of the “mob” which references Cosa Nostra from the previous EP. Honourable mentions to: Bar Codes featuring Giggs, that tune is brazy - From Tef’s rhyme and flow to Giggs’ bars and adlibs it is a song I didn’t know I needed, but now I can’t do without. Hustler’s Dont Die pt.6 - This obviously came out before this EP was dropped but that doesn’t take away from the stupendous tune it is. Slide Out - I love this beat and how this song begins, Tef’s voice isolated from the beat means the song is going to be incomparable. “This the type of shit we play when we slide out,” the beat doesn’t even have to be jumpy and harsh, yet it still gives off that catching opps vibe. Honestly guys keep Tef safe and give him the social presence he deserves. Even in Rapperitis he mentions how ‘youtes are getting rich off of TikTok’ I hate the disadvantage slightly older rappers are at because they’re so used to the industry being a certain way; strip all the social media away and these youngens can’t compete with man like Youngs Teflon. I want to be at Youngs Tef’s next listening party - Miriam.

This week we’ve come back with a top 5 of Rimzee’s new album, ‘Cold Feet’, let’s get into it - no specific order. BACK 2 BACK K-trap gives his iconic spin on this and it gives the tune it’s extra zest. Honestly when I first listened LB’s verse wasn’t a bit of me but consistent listening had it grown on me. “I put the clap in clapton” I love Rimzee’s constant reference to where he’s from it showcases the impact his surroundings had on him as a person. THINKING OUT LOUD I love this beat; the loop sound enhances it and gives it a slight emotional impression. Young Adz’s voice sits well on this, it’s very similar to his sound, “I know I shouldn’t get high but this shit boosts my self-esteem,” I think we all know this feeling Adz. JUGGIN This intro is incomparable, I love it. Tiggs Da Author, hasn’t been an artist that I usually come across but he bodied the chorus. When Rimz comes in with his verse he reminds me of Youngs tef a lot, I like his flow and his storytelling. When he says, “If my life was a film, it'd be a horror,” it gives me that Tef vibe because I remember when he had told me to watch ‘dead presidents’ and in his latest album his main theme is the ‘goodfellas’ film. Giggs’ voice is very surreal, I love the way this sounds in headphones because it feels like he’s rapping to you, speaking to you even. DEAR SOUTHWOLD ROAD It almost sounds like a relationship, I actually like the way he depicts his block, it’s a deeper thing than just a place he lived and I think that’s what makes this my favourite. Essentially he had its back and it had his back too. The solemn piano and hi-hats - like the lowness of the beat in general - provides a lot more space for Rimz’s artistic expertise, this forces him to be more expressive with his lyrics and I think it works very well. I love the chorus. 5AM IN CLAPTON I love the electric guitar on this and how prominent it is. The 808s, the bass, actually really emphasises what he’s talking about. “I pray we never fall out over money or girls” as unrealistic as it may seem these things actually do happen in modern day society and within males and females, it’s important to prioritise friendships before anything temporary. I love the way Nemzz fits in, his flow matches Rimz so well; amazing collab. Punchlines are there, his skills do not go unnoticed. I hope Rimzee won’t be getting Cold Feet on us any time soon - Miriam.

Now I have in one of my other blogs spoke about how happy I am that ash has returned, no matter the parting of the lotto boys group, but he’s really showcased what type of smoke he’s on releasing as an individual artist. Honestly props to Ash all the time and I’m hoping for even better and better music as he progresses. #1 On my own I like the sad solemn vibe of the instrumental, fits with the theme of the song and also the EP. The beginning gives me more spoken word than a rap, I like is openness and as I said before vulnerability, it adds a deeper dynamic to the whole song. “Fake friends bun them, I don’t wanna be friendly” seems like everyone’s been on this wave recently, if the relationships aren’t purposeful we aren’t making them! The prayer at the end? Oh that is what makes this my favourite. #2 Properly - I like the way this song begins, he doesn’t miss the vibe through this entire song and his lyrics are so real I’m loving him showcasing his vulnerability. The vocals never miss so it isn’t even a shock. I really do like this instrumental it feel like just enough; the proportion of ash - beat is balanced perfectly. #3 Sexy Oh this song bangs, was shaky when I heard this preview but the sexy ad-lib actually is tt, Ash also done his ting with rapping, “babygirl I’m litter now I’ll never be a trash can”. Picked an amazing beat that drum is giving me a 90 vibe. #4 ooh la la I really like M1llionz’s voice and his verse on this- he actually reminds me a lot of Dizzilo here - his spin is really what makes it unique alongside wewantwraiths and when Ash comes in with the chorus? Ai love the way it just ties it all together. Honourable mentions to the following songs: Apologise: I like the sample & simplistic beat. I like the softness if this song, he’s talking about essentially having no strings so he has no reason to apologise - doing things just because he wants to, and without any repercussions either. No need: I did like this song before the EP dropped, it’s a nice song but it didn’t exceed my expectations for Ash after ‘give you’. Motion: guitar on this eats & lyrics. It sounds like more than an expression of his journey - it’s so hard to describe but the tune it self holds so much meaning. All in all this was a very special project - for both me and Ash - as I said when I began I’m only hoping to hear bigger and better things from our star boy! Let me give you, some Louis & Versace shoes - Miriam.

Now K-trap really did his thing with this album, honestly following ‘warm’ is really hard to beat but at least he can say his only competition is himself. He’s got a couple of my favourite artists on this project, so let’s get into it. TOP 5 OF ‘The Last Whip II’. #1 Molly Mae ft. Youngs Teflon Now by now we should all know how I feel about Youngs Teflon’s music, he served as he usually does on this tune. I like the slight difference in the beat type, like this fits Tef’s flow a lot better but still fits with the overall theme of the album. “I stay dangerous cause that’s my body language,” he knew exactly what he was doing referencing one of my favourite songs off of his latest album. “Catch me with a blade I’m just chopping up some Joints”, stream Joints by K-trap & Blade Brown. #2 Rapper feat. Reekz MB When Reekz first came in I thought it was Stardom, I love the voice, the lyrics, all of it. “I hope they don’t think I’m doing music, that I won't still use it,” this line really stuck out to me because a lot of rap/drill artists don’t necessarily like to be classed as musicians because they don’t want it to diverge from their actual ‘occupation’. For the man on road it’s important to keep a reputation, they don’t ever want to be thought of or depicted as a person who’s lost their touch. #3 Who Wanna feat. Krept & Konan Now after my first listen, I had already seen a couple of people talking about this tune, Krept & Konan went in for this. Krept’s flow? Konan’s flow? Unbeatable, I’ve got this one on repeat because I was more than shocked with this one. They all came to serve. “Hate when a leng one follows, then unfollows”, don’t we all K-Trap. #4 Interlude I just knew this was going to be one of my favourites on the album. K-trap is most definitely asking these questions to validate some females, but I’d rather see it as him being vulnerable and open because he’s asking things that a lot of men are scared to ask, or whatever Krept said on his snap story. Someone get this man a wife. #5 Duck & Dive I love K-Trap’s storytelling, his ability to articulate his experiences in a way that’s still enjoyable is unelicited. “Shawty wanna be outside all summer, no wonder she’s stuck outside in the winter,” a concept that we’ve been battling for years. Is someone ever going to tell me why I can’t be a city girl when the sun comes up, and a lover girl when it goes down? I’ve got to mention a couple of other songs because it was definitely hard to pick this top 5. Rolling - “The fans always want new tapes, the gang always want new tapes,” the lyricism on this man is actually brazy, every single time I clock onto a bar I just have to laugh because this man is a genius. His ad libs and each beat just all coincide with each other so beautifully. Extra Sleeve feat. Headie One - This duo of K-trap & Headie, just eats every single time, and the fact that M1onthebeat produced it? It was destined to be a banger. This tune has such a jumpy vibe, and I love how he uses sounds to censor some of the words, it gives the song that playful element, and I genuinely feel like I could play this anywhere (within reason of course). Busy - The beat on this tune as well is just chef’s kiss, “Shopping with bae, fuck around get her a bag mini, medium, large” - this is so catchy I know that’s going to stick in my head. Trapo didn’t come to play and he really did represent this in the album, as Mimi said 2022 is really his year. Stream ‘The Last Whip II’ - Miriam. |
